"Nicholas Losey Goes to Reward
Veteran of the Civil War is Victim of Apoplexy, After Illness of Two Weeks.
Nicholas H. Losey, a highly respected old gentleman, died Monday evening at the home of his step-daughter, Mrs. Thomas Sheridan, on Kent street after an illness of about two weeks. Apoplexy was the cause of Mr. Losey's death, according to Dr. R.W. Alton's diagnosis. Little hope for his recovery had been held out from the start.
Mr. Losey was somewhat past the age of 79 years at the time of his demise, having been born at Rochester, N.Y., November 11, 1839.
When the civil war broke out he enlisted there in the union army and served four years, 9 months and 13 days. At the time of his discharge he was a member of Company C., 6th
New York cavalry.
After the close of the war he came to Michigan and married Miss Katherine McLean, of Sebewa township, who survives him. They have one daughter, Mrs. H.H. Fisher, residing at River Rouge, Mich., where Mr. and Mrs. Losey have visited
frequently during recent years. They spent the past winter there.
Mr. Losey was a member of the John Megarah Post, of Portland, and a regular attendant at its meetings. His comrades in that organization attended his funeral in a body today.
Services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan at 2:00 o'clock this afternoon, with an appropriate sermon by Rev. R.S. McGregor, of the Methodist church. Burial followed in the Portland cemetery."

the northern part of this state and had also been a "riverman." To him the stories of Stewart Edward White were but recitals of experiences he had often been through.
He is survived by Mrs. H.H. Fisher, of River Rouge, Mich., a
daughter by his first wife. His second wife, who was Mrs. Catherine McLean, mother of Mrs. Sheridan, also survives. Mr. Losey had been in poor health for some time. He was born in Rochester, N.Y., Nov. 11, 1839.
Funeral services were held at the Sheridan home Thursday afternoon, Rev. R.S. McGregor, of the M.E. church, officiating. Burial was in Portland cemetery.

Daughter Wilhemina "Minnie" was born Oct. 10, 1871. Their son Frederich Theodore was born, July 4, 1874. Nicholas abandoned his wife and two children, Christianne, died in 1878 leaving the two young children orphans. The children were adopted by Presque Isle County families, the
