George B. Sletteland was born in Pigeon Falls, Wisconsin on March 5, 1936, to Livia and Oscar B. Sletteland. He attended local schools and graduated from the Shattuck Military Academy in Faribault, MN. He finalized his education at the University of Wisconsin with his law degree and a major in economics. George earned his CPA certification. He furthered his education with completion of the UW Madison Graduate School of Banking program and the Harvard Business School Executive three-year program. As a college student he delighted in his summer job delivering mail by boat at Lake Geneva. He carried his passion for boating into his adult life, competing in yacht races and sailing. As a husband, a father and friend he excelled. George's passion for sailing was exceeded only by his passion for quality work. He wore many hats in the corporate world as partner at a large Milwaukee law firm and later directing his own law firms. George and Norma returned to Pigeon Falls where they delighted in taking an active role in the ownership and Norma's directing the Bank's contribution to the communities banking needs.
George Sletteland was preceded in death by his parents, Livia and Oscar B. Sletteland.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; and sister, Sigrid Larsen (Cape Cod, MA); his sons, Peder B. Sletteland, (Minneapolis, MN), G. Perry Sletteland, (Long Beach, CA), Eric D. Sletteland, (Lawrenceville, NJ), and Philip A. Sletteland, (Milwaukee, WI); also survived by grandchildren, Matthew, Kelly, Alesha, Megan, Seth, Ephraim, Levi, Asher, Luke, Isaac; and great-grandchildren. His extended family includes Jane Jacobson Pedersen (John), (Pigeon Falls, WI), John T. Jacobson, (Rebecca), (Appleton, WI), Mark R. Jacobson (Phyliss), (Mequon, WI), and Jacklyn Berger (Robert), (Waukesha, WI).
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery, both in Pigeon Falls. Pastor Dale Moe will officiate.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 1, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
