Clayton L. Blonien, 81, a native of Rudolph, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, in San Diego, Calif., following surgery for cancer in mid-August.

Mr. Blonien moved to Haider in 1949 and operated Clayt's Bar, Bowling Alley and grocery store until 1975. In partnership with his brother-in-law, Mr. Jack Justesen, Mr. Blonien operated Paper City Bowling Lanes in Mosinee until 1960, when he moved to Phoenix, Ariz. In Phoenix, Mr. Blonien worked for Motorola and retired from the United States Post Office.

Mr. Blonien was a veteran of World War II, receiving the Silver Star, a Bronze Star and numerous battle awards. He is a brother of Aimer Blonien, for whom the American Legion Post in Rudolph was named. The California State Assembly adjourned in his memory on Sept. 14, 2001. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a Green Bay Packers fan for more than 60 years.

Survivors include his beloved sister, Mrs. Arlene Justesen, Mosinee; children, Rodney J. Blonien, Sacramento, Calif., Jody K. Blonien, San Diego, Jane Blonien, San Francisco, Calif., and Scott Blonien, Olympia, Wash.; eight grandchildren, Ryan Blonien, Longview, Wash., Jessica Blonien and Molly Blonien, both of San Francisco, Jarhett Blonien, Elk Grove, Calif., Rhonada Tisdale, San Diego, Casey Tisdale, Albuquerque, N.M., Clayton Blonien, Olympia, and Cassie Blonien, also of Olympia. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Shane and Sidney Blonien of Longview, Wash. He was predeceased by his wife, Janet, on Feb. 9, 2001.
