She was born on June 29, 1928 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Ray and Mary L. (Roof) Strunks.
She married Gary R. Walters, Sr. on September 2, 1961 and they were married for nearly 50 years.
Survivors include her husband, Gary; children: Jim Long of Trona, California, Patricia (Steve) Skinner of Troy; Steve (Mary) Long of Troy; Doris (Brian) Rutan of Troy and Gary Jr. (Mica) Walters of Troy; brothers: Ray (Shirley) Strunks of Arcanum and Mike (Jean) Strunks of Deland, Florida; sisters: Arlene (Merle) Stevens of Dayton, Ohio, Phyllis (Dick) Sturgill of Brookville, Ohio and Beverly Phillips of Deland, Florida; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Walters was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Strunks and one sister, Esther Mancha.
She was a 1945 graduate of Butler High School in Vandalia, Ohio. She received her LPN license from Dettmer Hospital where she worked until 1961. She then worked in private duty practice and later in life, became a child care provider.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and spent many years as a primary teacher at the church which she dearly loved.
Mrs. Walters enjoyed traveling, flower gardening, crafts, crocheting, painting, NASCAR and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, with interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery
