William Jacob Brewer was the 6th born of David and Elizabeth McGee Brewer's 14 children. He was born in Lauderdale Co. AL on Feb. 16, 1837. On Jan.19, 1860, in Itawamba, MS., he married Zilpha Ann Hankins, who died before 1900 and who is also buried here*(in my opinion). See her memorial*

He and Zilpha (also called Anna) were the parents of 6 children including Joseph F. and William Henry, who also are buried here.

I have found no reason for his living in Mississippi but while living there, in 1862,"Jake" enlisted in the Confederate Army.He was listed as a private in Co. C of the 10th Reg't. MS Inf. He survived the war and applied for a pension. After the death of his first wife, Zilpha A., he married Sarah CatherIne Phillips Jones in 1905. They were the parents of one daughter Sarah.

Jake lived to a ripe old age of 90 and died in 1927 in Iron City, TN. in the home of his son William Henry. According to his obituary, he was a well known and loved citizen of Lawrence Co.TN. It was also noted that he remained an ardent supporter of the "lost cause of the South"

The records of Trish Brewer Boone show that William J. Brewer fought for the Confederate Army. CWA 23 Aug 2011.Revised 1 Oct 2011 to delete the statement that W.J. Brewer might never have returned from the Civil War.
