NYACK MAN DIES SUDDENLY
JOHN H. BLAUVELT SUCCUMBS TO HEART DISEASE
He Stopped in Brand’s Market to Wait for His Wife, and Expired Soon After Entering
He Was a Well-Known Nyack Citizen

Mr. John H. Blauvelt, a well-known and well-to-do resident of Nyack, died suddenly of heart disease on Wednesday evening, and the news caused a shock to his friends.
Mr. Blauvelt and his wife, whose pretty home is at the corner of Broadway and LaVeta place, were downtown in the evening, and, by agreement, Mr. Blauvelt went into Brand’s market where he was to wait for his wife, who was doing some shopping. As he entered the market, Mr. Brand offered him a chair.
“Take the chair yourself,” said Mr. Blauvelt to Mr. Brand; “I will sit here in the window.”
Mr. Blauvelt then proceeded to take a seat in the south window of the market when he fell heavily to the floor. Mr. Brand was very much startled, and upon hasty examination he saw the man was dead or dying. He sent word to the store of C. Smith Quidor and Company, and Edwin R. and Howard Smith, nephews of Mr. Blauvelt, hastened up to the market, where they found their uncle dead. Medical aid was summoned, and Drs. Maynard, Kline and Polhemus soon arrived, but their services were not needed. Coroner Bittig was notified and made the necessary investigation into the circumstances of death.
Mr. Blauvelt’s death was doubtless caused by heart disease, from which he had suffered during the past season. His health had been improved lately and he was feeling very well shortly before his sudden death.
Mr. Blauvelt was about 60 years of age. He was the son of the late James D. Blauvelt, of Nanuet, and spent the greater part of his life on his father’s farm. Four years ago, he came to Nyack, when he and his wife boarded at the Ivanhoe until he purchased a lot on Broadway and erected a fine residence thereon. He was a member of the Nyack Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Blauvelt had been married three times. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Emma, the wife of Theodore Brokaw, of Nanuet.
