HARRISBURG, ILL. —
Alta Jean Taborn, 79, 440 W. Harrison St., Carrier Mills, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held at noon Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Leroy Lockridge officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home.
She was born on Dec. 10, 1931, in Carrier Mills to the late J.D. and Ora (Rouse) Norton. She married Ordway Taborn on Sept. 20, 1952, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1993.
She was a homemaker and a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Carrier Mills. She loved to sing and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Glenn (Sue) Taborn of Norris City and John Taborn of Metropolis; four daughters, Verba (Victor) Brown and Audie Taborn, both of Carrier Mills, Ethel Jean Taborn (Zack) Kendrick of Evansville, Ind. and Cheryl (Charles) Drue Jr. of Harrisburg; a stepbrother, Moses Williams of Flint, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, Dustan Witherspoon, Nata Taborn Shultz, Chandra Taborn, Jami Rouse, Kelsie Charlie, Nicholas Kendrick, John Taborn Jr., Nathan Taborn, Jeanie Taborn, Cameron Taborn, Auburn Drue and Caden Drue; seven great-grandchildren, Zeke Shultz, Madix Shultz, Jordan Davis, Noah Davis, Ky'Lynn Hines, Summer Taborn and Highlie Drue.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Juanita Gill; and two great-grandchildren.
