Vera was the daughter of Abner A. Green and Martha Elizabeth "Bettie" Murry Green. She was the wife of Oliver Jackson Futch. Vera and Oliver lived in Harrison County, Texas.

Vera was the 8th great granddaughter of Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower. Three of Vera's ancestors are documented Daughters of the American Revolution soldiers and patriots. These ancestors are Captain James Green (NC), John Cole (NC) and Jesse Cook (CT & VT).
