Farmer of Montmorenci Dies at His Home; Last Rites This Afternoon
Aiken, Nov. 28— (Special)— Joseph Earl Woodward, 54, of Montmorenci, died at his home at 8 o'clock Tuesday night following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Montmorenci Baptist church at 3:30 Thursday afternoon by the Rev. George Needs and the Rev. J. Clarence Hughes. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Woodward is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lillian Plunkett Woodward; one daughter, Mrs. J. F. Sofgee, Jr., Aiken; one son, Jack P. Woodward, Montmorenci; four sisters, Mrs. J. B. Spillers of Montmorenci, Mrs. Ory Prince, Mrs. Charles Cupp and Mrs. Marion Jackson, all of Aiken; one brother, Ben H. Woodward, Montmorenci; one half-brother, L. T. Redd of Aiken, and three grandchildren.
Mr. Woodward was a native of Aiken county and a prominent farmer of the Montmorenci community.
For many years he was a buyer on the Aiken cotton market.
Mr. Woodward was a member of Montmorenci Baptist church.
