Yesterday afternoon, about three o'clock as George Derr, son of John Derr, the blacksmith, was crossing the tracks of the Pennsylvania Railroad at Mumma's crossing in the upper end or "Mummatown," he was struck by the engine of the second section of the Columbian express and instantly killed. A companion managed to get out of the way. Young Derr was aged about nineteen years and was at work around some houses which are being put up in the vicinity. He was attending to work, which made it necessary to cross the track, when he was killed. The body was picked up and taken to the dead house of the Pennsylvania Railroad at Harrisburg where an inquest was held. [Patriot News - January 21, 1893] Courtesy Brenda & Pete
