Mrs. Edgar (Marjorie Hetland) Wright Jr., 81, of Paris, died Thursday, February 13, 1997, in St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Center.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 17, in Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Williams officiating.

Burial will be in the Columbarium at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York.

Marjorie Wright was born May 30, 1915, in Portland, OR, the daughter of Taril Jonas Hetland and Hazel Forest Hetland.

She studied business administration at Oregon State University and served as business manager with Bank of America.

She married Edgar Wright Jr., a direct descendant of George W. Wright, 'Father of Paris, TX,' on February 23, 1940, in Bradford, McKean County, PA.

She was a member of the Cosmos Club of Paris.

Marjorie Wright's greatest devotion was making a home for her family.

As an Army wife, she had moved 10 times in 20 years between 1940-1960, from Manila, the Philippine Islands to Paris, France, and many points between.

Always within 24 hours, she imposed order on the chaos of moving into a strange new house, delivered home-cooked meals on the table, and created a sense of stability in a shifting world.

There was always a place for guests or new neighbors, and room for departing friends.

She treasured her family and never failed to appreciate company in her home.

Retiring along with her husband to Paris, TX in 1977, she joined the strong sense of history, community, and warm friendships, particularly at Cosmos, which enlivened and enriched her time in Texas.

Surviving is her husband, Col. Edgar Wright Jr., U.S. Army Ret., West Point Class of 1929. He fought on Bataan, The Philippine Islands, in WW II, evaded capture, and later in 1944 formed a guerrilla band against the Japanese in the Philippines. He resides in Paris.

Other survivors are two sons, Lt. Col. Edgar Wright III, U.S. Army Ret., of Bedford, MA, West Point Class of 1966 and manager with Raytheon Company, and James Taril Wright of Alameda, CA, a manager with Microsystems Computer Company; a daughter, Taril Ann Wright, Toshiba Electronics, Mountain View, GA; two grandsons, Andrey Jeffery Wright of Bedford, MA, and Travis William Wright of Alameda, CA; and a sister, Patricia Louise Garigliano of Gridley, CA.
