Mary A. Burns Holland was born in Putnam County, Georgia. Her parents were John Rickman Holland , Sr. of Virginia and Elizabeth Walker.

In the early 1840s John moved to East Texas (Harrison County) and his wife stayed behind in Georgia. This is where Mary's mom passed away. Mary was their third child and oldest daughter.

Mary married Thomas Tillery Bell on Dec. 6, 1836 in Chatlage, Chantham, Georgia. They had 9 children who were born in Tennessee, Alabama, & Texas. (Simruda Ellen Bell, John Thomas Bell, Martha E Bell, Julia Ann Bell, Jeffrey R Bell, Mary T Bell, Margaret Amanda Bell, Victoria Asalee Bell, and Lousiana Antionette Bell)

From 1850s to the time of her death she spent most of her time around Erath/Hamilton County in Texas.

Her fathers' land/farm is where Dublin, Texas today. This land was split up into 500 acre sections and Mary was given one of these portions.
