DENISON - Dan Bentley peacefully went to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of August 24, 2011. Dan was born on August 31, 1930 in Perrin, Texas and enjoyed 80 full, happy and richly blessed years here on earth. He had a great time and was a wonderful steward of the relationships, responsibilities and resources with which he was entrusted. He got to do everything he ever wanted to do, and was blessed with good health and dear friends all along the way. He was certainly a sinner saved by grace like the rest of us, but he showed his love for others and his commitment to important causes through his work, service, and actions. Among many other things, he was an active volunteer at Texoma Medical Center since 1987, delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, tirelessly served in many capacities in Waples Memorial Methodist Church, and was a long time volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Grayson County.

Some of the best memories that his friends have with him are of his many silly jokes, his big heart and his happy smile. He was always willing to help out wherever it was needed, and he exhibited a great example of sacrificial love as he cared for Mae Ruth, his wife of 50 years, as she traveled the difficult path of Alzheimer's Disease.

Among his dearest friends were Felix and Rita Love and many other long-time relationships with his co-workers at Texas Power and Light Company. He and Mae Ruth and their children were immeasurably blessed by 40 years of loving friendship, support and prayers from everyone in their church family and particularly through the dear folks of the Fellowship Class. Dan was honored to be a part of the TMC Volunteer family and enjoyed his friendship with every one of them. He was a regular fixture at TMC's front desk every Friday afternoon for years.

Dan got a great kick out of being a part of the "Old Man Coffee" group that meets every weekday morning at 9:00 a.m. at Jones Barbeque, and counted those men as his brothers. He adored his girlfriend Iva Jo Parsons, and was grateful for every minute they had together. He was an excellent husband, father, and grandfather, and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by daughters Carrie Bolin & husband Brent of Denison, Connie Brunson & husband Barry of Lorena, TX; brothers Jerry Bentley & wife Jane of Albuquerque, NM, George Bentley & wife Bobbie of Dallas; special friend Iva Jo Parsons of Denison; grandchildren Daniel Brunson, Katie Sue Brunson, Ben Brunson, Michael Matthews & Lauren Matthews.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mae Ruth and his parents, Clyde & Alma Faye Duke Bentley.

A memorial service and celebration of Dan's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Waples Memorial United Methodist Church, 830 West Main, Denison, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Habitat for Humanity of Grayson County, P.O. Box 2725, Sherman, TX 75091 or to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard Street, Denison, TX 75020 (903) 465-2323. Further information is on our website at www.bratcherfuneralhome.com.
