Inventor.He invented a spoon and had it patented for the purpose of administering medicine to horses.A round nickel bulb was attached to a long handle with a small hole in one side.When filled with medicine,the spoon was put into the horse's mouth and rolled over whereupon the liquid spilled out into the throat of the horse.In 1866 he secured a patent for a revolving punch used on harness'.In 1867 he came up with a window spring and a patent for a self adjusting coupling that could be detatched in one minute.The lightest road wagon ever made was invented by Bedford in 1881,it weighed just eighty pounds.Bedford requested as many as five patents a month.His most outstanding invention was the Bedford Sulky,the famous trotting sulky achieved a world wide reputation for their strength and lightness.He is best remembered as the inventor and manufacturer of the 'bike sulky' which is still used today in harness racing.
