GOSHEN -- Gladys Rae Hochstetler, 78, died Sunday morning, Aug. 21, 2011, at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born April 7, 1933, in Goshen to the late Willis C. and Gladys "Joy" (Fisher) Kistler. She married Ray Hochstetler in Goshen on June 17, 1951.
He survives along with five daughters, Wendy (Darcy) Brandt, Ronda Justice and Sally (Wayne) Markham, all of Goshen, Paula (Kenny) Miller of Florence, Ky., and Donna (Kevin) Strand of Batavia, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, George Kistler; a sister, Ann Yoder; and a foster sister, Margaret LaValley.
A 1951 graduate of Goshen High School, Mrs. Hochstetler was a member of First Brethren Church, Goshen, and former member of Sunnyfield Missionary Church where she was pianist and organist. She worked as a unit secretary at Goshen General Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1988. She belonged to the Women's Missionary Society at First Brethren Church and was instrumental in starting the Women's Auxiliary at Goshen Hospital in 1965.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Matt and Thad Justice, Brent Miller, Lucas Brandt, David and Jon Strand and Jared Markham.
Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Monday funeral service at First Brethren Church of Goshen, with pastors John Drexler and John Howenstein of the church officiating. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
