Velma Arlene DeLong was the daughter of James E. DeLong and Urilla Swan DeLong. At 21, the young music teacher married Alexander Milligan McCloud Dornon, a school superintendent and widower with four children. (His oldest son Joe later died at age 15 in 1901). Velma died in childbirth along with the baby girl she was having. They are reportedly buried in the same grave, though there is no marker for the baby.
