DIED. Goodrich - On the morning of the 24th instant, Josiah Goodrich, in the 69th year of his age.
• Friends are invited to attend the funeral from his late residence, 422 Fifth Street Northwest, on Monday, the 26th instant, at 2 P.M.
• Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Lafayette W. Case in his 1889 "Goodrich Family in America" (p.139) claims Josiah Goodrich, s. of Josiah and Abigail (Wolcott) Goodrich of Pittsfield, Mass. m. July 29, 1799, "Rebekah" Ripley, but does not state where they married. They purportedly had four children, the eldest being son John, b. Dec. 27, 1800, who married Harriet Elliott. Purported son John is the only child that Case provided further information about in a separate family sketch.

By an intent to marry pub. July 10, 1802 at Pittsfield, Mass., Josiah Goodrich, s. of Josiah and Abigail (Wolcott), m. Rebecca Ripley, dau. of Perez Ripley and Parnel Sturtevant, b. of record Aug. 23, 1777 at Halifax, Mass. Unfortunately for Lafayette W. Case, Josiah and Rebecca (Ripley) Goodrich had only three children. Case's purported son John, his supposed wife and their six children was actually the family of Josiah Goodrich and Rebecca Ripley's son Josiah Ripley Goodrich, b. at Pittsfield May 8, 1805. The correct genealogy follows.

Josiah Goodrich married Harriet Elliott, Aug. 11, 1840 at the Fourth Pres. Church, Ninth Street, Rev. John C. Smith D.D.

His parents were Josiah Goodrich of Pittsfield Mass. and Rebecca Ripley Goodrich of Conn.

Josiah and Harriet had 6 children, Mary Lay, Josepha Franklin, Elizabeth Eliot, John Howard, Edward Payson, and John C. Rives Goodrich who died as a child.
