FORT WORTH – Owen Dale Cox, 53, passed away Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.

Service: Noon Wednesday at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home in Burleson. Officiating will be his dear friend and chaplain, David Barrett. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dale was born Oct. 13, 1957, the son of Geraldine and the late Owen D. Cox. On Sept. 16, 1978, he married the love of his life, Marda Trevino.

Dale retired as a detective from the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, where he dedicated his life in law enforcement, after 30 years.

Dale will be remembered by all who knew him as someone who never asked "Why me?" after suffering five strokes last year. His positive attitude, new found passion for shopping, giving high fives to his grandchildren and always having a smile for you when you saw him, proved what a strong and amazing man he was.

Survivors: His wife of 32 years, Marda; son, Jason and wife, Rachel; daughter, Alena and husband, Christopher Brown; five grandchildren; mother, Geraldine Cox and sister, Marcia Wilhoit both of Corpus Christi; the Trevino family, who thought of him as a son and brother; numerous nieces and nephews, who will be left with fond memories of Uncle Dale; his extended family, Steve and Winola Roy and their children; and all the men and women he worked with whom he called his "brothers and sisters."
