Martha's parents moved from Wythe County, Virginia to Fayette County, Indiana abt 1823 where Martha Ann was born. The family moved to La Porte County by 1837, where her father John bought land in Galena Township. John Cooley's will was filed in La Porte County in Sept 1943, and probated Feb 1845. In the will, Martha Ann is listed as a daughter. Her mother Martha Cooley died in Kankakee township in Dec 1949. There is no record John and Martha Cooley's burial, although possibly in Rolling Prairie or Lambs Chapel cemetery.
After Martha Ann married Enoch Preston, she lived in Kankakee township the rest of her life. In 1850 census, her nephew Joseph McCormack (age ~8) was listed as living with Enoch and Martha. Joseph was the son of Martha's elder sister Jane W Cooley and William McCormack. Martha's husband Enoch helped to build Lambs Chapel, for which cemetery is named.
