Darlene Doolin, age 77, passed away at Golden Living Center in Mishawaka on August 25, 2011. Darlene was born Dec. 23, 1933 in Mishawaka to the late William and Winifred (Zolman) Buchanan.
Surviving are her children, David (Jackie) Doolin of South Bend, Carl (Cheryl) Doolin of Mishawaka, Mark (Jennifer) Doolin of South Bend and Frances (Todd) Wheat of Lonoke, AR. Surviving as well are 6 grandchildren, Bryan (Kerri) Stivers, Bradley Stivers, Brandon Stivers, Christopher Doolin, Allen Doolin, and Hannah Doolin. Darlene is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Schultz, and Julia "Kate" Thompson. She was preceded in death by her brother Eldon Buel, and her sisters Esther Benedict, and Eileen Price.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, August 29, 2011 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Darlene graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1952. She was employed by Ball Band in Mishawaka after high school, and then became a homemaker. Later, she was employed by the South Bend Community School Corporation in the food service department, and during the summer months, was the head cook at Camp Ray Bird in South Bend.
Darlene was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mishawaka, and enjoyed craft work, especially crocheting and drawing. In her younger years, she enjoyed working in her garden. In her memory, donations may be made to Camp Ray Bird at 25765 Edison Road, South Bend, IN 46628.
