Mr. Kerr was employed as a chemist at the DuPont Co for 32 years. In the 1950s, he was a member of the DuPont team that developed a synthetic magnetic substance, Crolyn, for use in video and audio recording tape. After retiring from DuPont in 1984, he operated R J Kerr Video Services.

Bob was a pioneer in the use of videotape in community theater. He is renowned for being the first to videotape rehearsals of community theater productions for use as a tool for directors. This allowed them to play back rehearsals so the actors could actually see the points being made about their performances. It was an invaluable tool to everyone. He began with one black and white video camera, expanded to three and eventually went to color, all at his own cost. It was a family affair, as his wife Marjorie and sons Robert Andrew and David Alan volunteered as camera operators and technical directors. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie H. Kerr, sons Robert Andrew and David Alan.
