Roy H. Ames Jr.

Roy H. Ames Jr., 72, of Buffalo Road, died Nov. 2, 2008, at his home. He was born in West Rumney, Aug. 30, 1934 to Roy H. Sr. and Helen (Crafts) Ames. He grew up in Thornton and Warren. He resided in Wentworth for the past 51 years. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He went to work at age 13 in the Rumney Mica Mine, and worked for 17 years at Franconia Paper Co., in Lincoln, as a foreman of the finishing department. He worked for two years as a mechanic at Hights Garage. For the past 36 years, he owned and operated Roy Ames Auto Garage in Wentworth. He served the town of Wentworth as forest fire warden, selectman for 16 years and was a member of the Wentworth Volunteer Fire Department for more than 50 years. Family members include his wife of 51 years, Joan L. (Morrison) Ames of Wentworth; two sons, Steven R. Ames of Wentworth, and Jeffrey W. Ames of Wentworth; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St., Plymouth. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Wentworth.

Gravesite Details

1/3/2012 - I spoke with Peter at Mayhew Funeral Home, Plymouth, and Roy was buried on his own property in Wentworth out behind his house. Peter believes he is the only one buried there and the cemetery has no name.
