Duane M. Wood, 75, of 210 Bonar Avenue, Waynesburg, died at his home of an apparent heart attack at 8:15 PM.,Wednesday, November 5, 1980.

He was born October 30, 1905, in Rogersville, a son of the late Cordyn and Artie Adamson Wood.

Mr. Wood graduated from Center Township High School in 1925 and cum laude with a B.S. degree from Waynesburg College in 1929. He also did graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh, Slippery Rock State College and California State College.

In 1929 he began his teaching career in Aleppo Township and in 1937 was named school principal. He later taught at Midway High School and in 1947 joined the Bethlehem Center School District where he remained until his retirement in 1971.

He organized the first six man football team, the Pioneers, in Greene County, coached softball and volleyball and played on several of the county's sandlot baseball teams.

Mr. Wood was a member of the First Christian Church of Waynesburg where he served as a deacon and Bible school teacher for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Fayne Murray Wood, whom he married August 10, 1935.

Also surviving are two sons, Holly and James, both of Waynesburg; one daughter, Darlene Joy Wood, at home; four grandchildren, Shawn, James, Kimberly and Dawn Wood, all of Waynesburg; two sisters, Mrs. Leo (Kathleen) Hill and Mrs. Alice Stockdale, both of Fredericksburg, Va.
