Abraham was a druggist with his brother William Hull Clarke in Chicago in 1835. They sold French and Geneva cologne water, lavender water, soaps of all kinds for washing, shaving and the toilet, cold cream, antique oil for the hair, essences, pomades, pearl powder, and milk of roses.
