Mr. Kooi served in the Army Air Corps, 486th Bomb Group, 833rd Squadron as a radio operator, and went on 21 missions over Germany. He later had a welding shop in rural Whiteside Co., and then worked in the engineering department of General Electric for 20 years. He was a member of the Spring Valley Reformed Church. He died at Mercy Medical Center South in Clinton, Iowa, of the complications from bone cancer.
