Michael J. Aplin, Abingdon Chapel age 57, of RR Abingdon, died at 10:57 am Monday, August 29, 2011 at the Galesburg Cottage Hospital emergency room.
He was born on April 29, 1954 in Galesburg. He married Carol S. Kaser on June 9, 1972 at the First Lutheran Church in Galesburg. She survives.
Mike is also survived by one son, Jeromie Aplin of Abingdon; one daughter, Mandi (and Brian) Simmert of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Zowie Aplin, Michaela and Jaceb Simmert; his biological father, James Schneider of Gilson; one brother, Rick (and Cheryl) Aplin of RR Berwick; a stepbrother, Gerald "Bucky" Poynor of Galesburg and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeannie (Hager) Aplin and his father who adopted him, Richard Aplin, one sister, Margaret Lace Aplin and a sister-in-law, Peggy Aplin.
Mike graduated from Knoxville High School. He had lived in the Abingdon area for the past 40 years. He was self employed as a floor covering installer for 42 years. He was a past volunteer fireman for the Abingdon Fire Protection District. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He was a member of the Sons of American Legion in Abingdon and later in Knoxville. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed the many trips he took with them.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Michel Clark will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday at the chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service. A private family graveside service will be held at a future date at the Abingdon Cemetery.
