Dennis G Hanson, of Prior Lake. Born November 21, 1935 in Gary, MN to Ivar and Hilda (Olson) Hanson. Died peacefully and without pain, surrounded by family at 11pm on July 19, 1999 at home after a brief battle with melanoma.

Denny grew up in Gary, MN from 1935 to 1944 when his family moved to Oak Island on Lake of the Woods. He spent six years at the Oak Island Resort, which his father owned and operated. He attended the one-room schoolhouse (U32) on the island and was a fishing guide for the guests of the resort. The family then moved to Portland, Oregon in 1951.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 and served as Radioman 2nd Class on the Troop Transport, U.S.S. General W. A. Mann until 1958. During his enlistment, he made 26 trips to Japan plus various other Far East locations. His home port was Seattle, Washington.

In 1959 he moved back to Minnesota where he met Mary Ann Thies, his future wife of 37 years, and purchased a home overlooking beautiful Prior Lake. Dennis was employed with Minneapolis Honeywell from 1961 until his retirement in 1996, most recently as an Avionics Inspector.

Denny enjoyed traveling; especially his many trips back to Portland, Oregon and his September 1994 trip to Norway with his sister, Esther. While in Norway, he was able to explore many wonderful locations, including the birthplace of his father on the island of Donna in northern Norway.

An avid Amateur Radio Operator (W0VWD) both before and after his retirement, He enjoyed walking, biking, fishing, playing horseshoes, and was a member of the local Dan Patch Horseshoe League for several years.

Dennis will be greatly missed by; his loving caregiver, Mary Ann (Thies) Hanson of Prior Lake, MN. Sons, David Michael of Apple Valley, MN. Dale Sydney also of Apple Valley. Sisters, Diane Wright (Ted) of Portland, OR., Dolores Stuart of Boise, ID. Brother, Michael Hanson (Iona) of Milwaukee, OR. his loyal Golden Retriever, Sam, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceded in death by his birthmother; Hilda M. (Olson) Hanson. Infant brother, Arthur Vincent. Father and Mother; Ivar & Charlotte Hanson. Brother; Sydney I. Hanson. Sisters; Irene K. Johnson, & Esther E. Spaits.

Arrangements handled by Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home in Prior Lake.

Services held Friday, July 23, at 11:00 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Prior Lake, MN., where Dennis was a member since 1972.

Interment at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Prior Lake.

Memorials preferred to the America Cancer Society - Melanoma Research.
