Annette Budenholzer, 82, of Salinas passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2011 after a long series of illnesses with family members at her side. Annette will be remembered for many qualities: she was a caring daughter and sister, an aspiring college singer, had a quick, dry sense of humor and

was a dedicated teacher who believed that all her students had great potential to succeed. Her family remembers her for the care and support she gave as a loving wife and mother.

Annette was born Feb. 17, 1929 in Socorro, NM and was the first member of her family to earn a college degree and teaching credential at New Mexico Highlands University. She married her husband of 58 years, Bob, while they were both teaching in Mountainair, NM. In 1960, Annette moved with her husband and family to Soledad where they raised their six children. Annette was one of the first of her generation to return to the work place after having children and taught third grade at San Vicente School and worked as Director of Curriculum for the Soledad School District, returning to the classroom for one final year in 4th grade before retiring. In Soledad, Annette was a member of Our Lady of Solitude Church, Young Ladies Institute, and served on the board of the Soledad Community Health Care District during the construction of Eden Valley Care Center (a project very dear to her heart). After her retirement, she and her husband Bob enjoyed traveling with family to many destinations. In 1994, they moved to Salinas.

Annette was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents Walter and Ruth Shaw, her brothers Walter and Steve, and her son Alan.

She is survived by her loving children Karen, Brian (Mary Ann), Michele (Fred), Mike (Jeanette), and Geralyn, and the eight grandchildren she loved and adored who made her very proud.

The family would especially like to thank the staff at Katherine Healthcare Center for the excellent care and support they gave to Annette.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.

Rosary will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Struve and Laporte Chapel.

Funeral Mass will take place Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone St., Salinas, CA 93901.
