Lois Nelson Baker, 88, of Beaver, peacefully passed away Thursday evening, August 25, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Hospice House, Wexford, with her family at her side.

Born February 15, 1923, in Banksville, PA, she was a daughter of the late Orveal and Dorothy Dazen Nelson and had been a resident of Beaver since 1938. She had been a former nutritionist for the Penn State Extension office, and was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Beaver, where she had been a former president and member of the Hodge Band for over 22 years. Active in her community, Lois also was a former board member of the Merrick Art Gallery, New Brighton, was a member of the Beaver Area Heritage Foundation and the Professional Society of Professional Engineers Ladies Auxiliary and had served as a Girl Scout leader for over 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, whom she married November 20, 1942, in the historic post chapel at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, William O. Baker, in 2010, and two sisters, Anita Schaper and Audrey Smith.

Surviving are two sons, Riley Baker, Beaver, and Kent (Cindy) Baker, Boalsburg, PA; three daughters, Jan Baker, Beaver; Emily (Barry) Blose, Washington, PA; Martha Baker (Dennis Brelloch), Bridgewater; two grandsons, Wesley and Ross Baker, and a brother, James (Lois) Nelson, Sewickley. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Friends will be received today from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Round Room of the First Presbyterian Church, Beaver. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 12 noon in the First Presbyterian Church by her pastor, Rev. Jeffrey A. Arnold.

Private interment will take place at the Beaver Cemetery.

Arrangements are being conducted by the NOLL FUNERAL HOME Beaver.
