Charles W. Bentley, age 78, of Rolling Prairie, rural route No. 2, passed away at 1:30 yesterday afternoon at the Holy Family Hospital after a year's illness of complications. Mr. Bentley was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., June 27, 1853, later moving to LaPorte and then to Rolling Prairie seven years ago. He was a retired New York Central Railroad engineer. Mr. Bentley was married in South Bend on Dec. 10, 1921, to Rosa Wheatbrook. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. C. W. Bentley; two daughters, Mts. Ethel Isler and Miss Minnie Bentley, both of Chicago; four grandchildren; a sister, Mts. George Pue of Grand Rapids, and two brothers. Another daughter preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at the O. M. Haverstock Chapel in LaPorte Friday morning at 10 o'clock, daylight savings time, the Rev. M. G. Long officiating. The body may be viewed at the chapel this evening and until the time of the funeral Friday. The body will be taken to Grand Rapids for burial Friday afternoon.
