U.S. Congressman. He was employed as a railway trainman in 1885 and served as legislative representative of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen of New York State, (1896-1933). He served as referee for the New York State Labor Bureau, (1914-15), as alderman of Oswego, (1908-09), Mayor of Oswego, New York, in (1910-11, 18-21) and as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1932. In 1933, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third Congress, serving until 1935. After his term, he resumed his position as legislative representative for the Railroad Brotherhoods, until his death at age 73.
