She was the second of five children, the others being Mary (1847), Jacob (1851), Anna (1854) and John (1856). Sebastian died in 1857 and Fredericka remarried. She then died between 1860-1865 and her husband remarried. Thus, the children were raised by their stepfather and his wife. When the children were of age, they all left Wisconsin. In the early census records, Louisa is known as Elizabeth.

Louisa died 10 January 1901 at the age of 51 and is buried in Gavilan Hills Cemetery, Gilroy, Santa Clara County, California.
