William Eugene Tanner
William Eugene Tanner, 80, of 109 W. National St., Harrisburg, died 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at the V.A. Medical Center in Marion.
Services were held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Kendall Jones officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation was 9 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home.
He was born July 21, 1922, in Harrisburg to the late Freeman and Grace (Furlong) Tanner. On Aug. 31, 2001, he married the former Sarah Jane Edwards, who survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII and was a retired security guard.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five cousins, JoAnn Young, Ovalee Reynolds, Monzelle Butler, Bonnie Jones and Hazel Duncan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Tanner.
