Arriving by steamship at the Port of New Orleans, they traveled up the Mississippi River to St. Louis. They later moved to Jackson County (near Rockford), Illinois and in 1894 moved to Kaskaskia Island. He was a farmer and raised potatoes and sold them to Menard Penitentiary.
