Funeral services for the late G.A. Rye, an old resident of this county and one of Fertile's leading citizens, were held at the Lutheran church in Fertile Saturday afternoon, April 28th, the Rev. R. O. Hjelmeland officiating , Rev. H.C. Wigdahl, of Mason City, the Rev. Carl F. Schmidt, of Fertile,and a representative of Waldorf Collage at Forest City, assisted Rev. Hjelmeland in the church service at 2:30 o'clock
The deceased was one of the county's best known men, having resided in southern Worth for forty-seven years, and serving the county three terms as county supervisor from the south western district. At the time of his death he was a member of the board of trustees of Waldorf Collage, and a member of the board of education of the Fertile Schools. All his life Mr. Rye gave unstintingly of his time to public service,being president of the Fertile Dairy Association for a period of almost thirty years, and serving as director of the Fertile bank since the organization of that institution. He was a member of the Lutheran church and a tireless worker in its rank. G.A. Rye was born at Mt Vernon, Wis. March 18, 1856 and came to Worth Co., in 1876, residing on the old Rye homestead for 42 years. In 1918 he became a resident of Fertile where he lived up till the time of his death which occurred at a hospital on Wednesday morning April 25, 1923.
On Nov. 27, 1881, Mr.Rye married Anna Sanderson, of Fertile, and to them were born ten children, all of whom, with their mother survive the husband and father. Mrs. Mable Bolstad,Lewis Rye,Melvin Rye,Arthur Rye, Mrs.Hilda Rholl, Gordon Rye, Harlen Rye, Mrs.Gladys (O'Hare) Losse, Mrs.Florence Hobbs, Mrs. Eva Faulken.

Pursuing his studies in the public schools of Dane County Wisconsin, through the winter seasons, Gullick worked the fields during the summer months. He became quite familiar with the best methods of tilling the soil and caring for the crops. By 1876 some Norwegian were migrating to northern Iowa. Gullick's family was no exception. Fertile in Worth County became their home.
