Mr. Estep first joined the United States Marine Corps in December of 1937, at Baltimore, Maryland and was promptly sent to Parris Island, South Carolina for boot camp. He saw shore duty at Marine Base, Norfolk, VA; Marine Base, Navy Yard, Philadelphia, PA; Marine Barracks, New York, NY; Naval Training School, Pensacola, FL; and MCAS Cherry Point, NC. He saw sea duty on the USS Phoenix. He was honorably discharged in May of 1945. He was awarded the Marine Corps. Good Conduct medal, the World War II Victory medal, the Marksman Rifle badge, the Sharpshooter Pistol badge and the Expert BAR badge. He later became a Correctional Officer for the State of New York.
