U.S. Congressman. Successful in the mercantile business, he entered politics, was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1804-05, 08), judge of Rensselaer County, (1805-08) and a member of the State constitutional convention, in 1821. In 1823, he was elected as a Crawford Republican to the Eighteenth Congress, serving until 1825. After leaving Congress, he engaged in the mercantile business until his death.
