Mrs. Watson Merchant, of Portland, who has suffered with cancer for four
years, died Sunday night and will be buried in Portland this (Tuesday)
afternoon, services being held at the house at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. J.
W. H. Carlisle. Mr. and Mrs. Merchant were married in 1880, she being the
widow of Seymour Smith. She was born in Westphalia 57 years ago, her maiden
name being Emma McVeigh. She was a sister of Henry and Samuel McVeigh.
