Edward Francis Richards: born Nov. 13, 1836 in Dedham, MA, the son of Edward F. and Rebecca (Guild) Richards.

He was a 24 year-old Clerk from Dedham, MA, when he enlisted at Dedham on June 1, 1861 and was mustered into the 18th Mass. Infantry on August 24, 1861 as a Corporal with Company F. He was assigned for extra duty with the Quartermaster's Department from January 1862 and was promoted to the rank of Quartermaster Sergeant of the Regiment on March 13, 1862. Richards was on duty with the Brigade Train at City Point, Va. from Feb. 29, 1864 to June 30, 1864. He was mustered out of military service on Sept. 2, 1864 at the expiration of his three year enlistment.
