Florence Adeline Secor Long, 97, of Hannibal, died Wednesday, January 8, 2003, at McLarney Manor, in Brookfield, Mo. Born November 16, 1905, with her twin sister, Frances, daughters to Alice E. Savidge Secor and R. Guy Secor, in Greenfield, Ill. She married Edward V. Long, August 11, 1935. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Long graduated with a B.S. degree in Home Economics from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1928, and taught Home Economics for 13 years. The Longs lived in Bowling Green, Mo., until 1950 when they moved to Brookhill Farm, Clarksville, Mo. In 1960, they moved to Washington, D.C., when Mr. Long became a member of the United States Senate. After the death of her husband in 1972, Mrs. Long lived in Hannibal, Mo., and Big Sand Lake, Wisc. Mrs. Long was a member of Chapter JH, P.E.O., The Hannibal Women's Club, a Director of Canton State Bank, and a member of Ramsey Creek Baptist Church. She was active in the Order of Eastern Star, serving in local offices and in the state of Missouri Grand Chapter as Grand Martha and as Official Representative to the state of Iowa and Oklahoma. In 1960, she was chosen to be President of the 87th Congressional Forum, members being the wives of Senators and Representatives elected to the 87th Congress.
Florence and Ed had one daughter, Ann Garner Long Miller; Ann had one daughter, Ann Elizabeth Miller who was left the bulk of Sen Long's estate
