Clergyman; born in Glen Riddle, Pennsylvania Nov 22 1843; son Archibald and Mary Ann Riddle McDowell. He was graduated from Dickinson College as AB in 1863; DD in 1890; He married in 1869 Anna R Sewell of Vienna Dorchester County, Maryland and they have three children: Margaret R., Archibald S., and Theodore L. He was admitted to the Conference of the Methodist Church in 1865; pastor from 1865 1897; presiding elder of the Northwest District from 1897 to 1903; pastor 1903-1907 of Columbia Avenue Church, Philadelphia; since 1907 pastor of Centenary Church, Lebanon, Pa. Dr. McDowell was statistical secretary of the Philadelphia Conference from 1882 to 1897; delegate to the General Conferences of 1892 and 1900; first reserve delegate the General Conferences of 1888 and 1896; member and secretary of the Book Committee of the Methodist Church 1900 to 1904; now member the Board of Home Missions and Extension, president of the Conference Board of Church Extension president of Trustees of Education Fund and member of several other church boards. Address 33 North 10th Street, Lebanon Pa.
