A memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Miller with the Rev. Brian Jones officiating.
Barbara Jean Schroeder was born March 10, 1930 to Alfred and Anna (McKay) Schroeder in Miller. She attended school in Miller and graduated in 1948. After attending Huron College, she worked for an attorney in Miller. Later she served 24 years as Register of Deeds for Hand County, retiring in 1991.
On April 28, 1950, she married James W. Alley at the First Presbyterian Church in Miller. They ranched and farmed in Hand and Hughes Counties for seven years, before moving to Miller in 1957.
Barbara was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Miller and was a member of Chapter AK P.E.O. She loved to visit, garden, play bridge, and watch sporting events.
Survivors include her husband, Jim, of Miller; six children, Carolyn (Greg) Rediger of Miller, Julie (Pat) Burns of Puyallup, Washington, Jane (Scott) Gardner of Brandon, J. Michael Alley of Miller, Susie (Mike) Ellsworth of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Todd (Cathy) Alley of Lincoln, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren, Lindsey (Alex) Ellsworth Bahe, Jamie and Kelly Ellsworth, Amy Burns, Colin and Marcus Alley, Grant Rediger, Emily and Thomas Gardner, Anne and Carly Alley; a brother, Robert (Verlyn) Schroeder of Miller; a sister-in-law, Lois Glover of Burke; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marian Schroeder.
