MRS. ELLA HASTINGS SUCCUMBS TO AILMENT
An early resident of Lead, Mrs. Ella Cecelia Hastings, 80, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Josiah Gerrans, at 1:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon. She had been in failing health over a long period of time, and for several months had been bedfast, so her passing was not unexpected.
Ella C. Tucker was born October 19, 1852 in St. Louis Mo., and removed with her parents to Nebraska at the age of two years. She was married in Nebraska City, Neb., June 24, 1874, to William H. Hastings and in 1900 the family came to Lead to live.
Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hastings, one of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are Mrs. Della Thompson, Haxtun, Colo., Mrs. Alma Schweder, Sheridan, Wyo.; Charles Hastings, Yankton, S.D.; Wallace Hastings, Haxtun, Colo.; Mrs. Ella Miller, Goldendale, Wash.; Walter Hastings, Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Emma Gerrans of this city. In addition to the sons and daughters the deceased is survived by a sister, Mrs. W.T. Brown, Blackfoot, Idaho; three brothers, Charles, Robert and William Tucker of Standish, Cal., and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Schweder has been here for the past two months, assisting in caring for her mother, and Mr. and Mrs. Thompson and their daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Merryfield, of Haxtun, are on their way here and are expected to arrive some time this evening. The other relatives living at a distance will be unable to come.
The body is at the Rounsevell funeral home on Mill street and may be viewed by friends until the funeral hour at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon. The Rev. F.W. Viken, pastor of the Methodist church, will be in charge of the services. Interment will be in municipal cemetery beside the grave of her husband who died two years ago.
Pall bearers are Henry Searle, August Hett, Louis Benhart, Arthur Tonkyn, William Harvison and A.E. Anderson.
