MOVED FOR I-64 TO MANY OTHER CEMETERIES
IN WAYNE AND CABELL COUNTIES

During 1963 the West Virginia Dept. of Highways determined that the Johnson Cemetery Located near the old Cook School House in Harveytown would have to be moved to make way for the Interstate (I-64). A consultant was hired to locate the existing graves and document where each was located. While this was being done, families were contacted foe comment and direction as to where graves should be moved. Several chose cemeteries in Cabell County. But the majority of the graves, some 687 were moved to Dock's Creek Cemetery, 2 to Cyrus Cemetery, 1 to the Earl Cemetery, 1 to the Donohue Cemetery, 34 to the Ross Addition of Crescent Hill, and 5 to the Hillcrest Cemetery - all in Wayne County.
