MOUNT CARMEL -- Peter Anthony Pittello, 84, 419 W. Fifth St., died on Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after a lengthy illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Mount Carmel.
Born in Mount Carmel on June 29, 1924, he was a son of the late Charles Pittello and the late Ernestine (Chango) Pittello.
Pittello was a 1942 graduate of Mount Carmel High School.
Peter was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He entered the U.S. Army on April 22, 1943, and served with Company D 36th Engineering Battalion in Italy. He was discharged on Dec. 20, 1944.
He was married on Nov. 30, 1946, in St. Peter's Church, Mount Carmel, to the love of his life, the former Mary L. Santelli, who survives.
Peter was employed in his early years as a mechanic for the Shamokin-Ashland Bus Company. He retired from PPL after working many years as a transportation mechanic.
He was a former member of St. Peter's Church, and a member of Divine Redeemer Church, Mount Carmel; a Third Degree member of the Mount Carmel Knights of Columbus Council No. 628; Kulpmont American Legion Post No. 231 and the Mount Carmel Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2110.
He was a hunter, fisherman and an avid bowler.
His faith in God was strong. Those who knew him will always remember his kind and generous spirit. He was always willing to help out anyone in need. His love for his family was unsurpassed.
Peter was a loving and devoted father.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth Mosello, Ann Swinko and Mary Grabuski.
