James Pettapiece Passes Away
Friends of James Pettapiece, of the Goosebill country, will be grieved to learn of his passing away at St. Clare hospital on Friday evening, Aug. 12, at 7:45, after an illness of several weeks with Bright's disease. Mr. Pettapiece was brought to the hospital several days ago in a serious condition, and little hope was held out for his recovery.
Mr. Pettapiece was well known in the Fort Benton and Goosebill sections, where he has resided since 1912. He was held in highest esteem by all who knew him and his passing will be sincerely mourned by his relatives and large circle of friends.
James H. Pettapiece was born at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on June 6, 1866, and departed this life at St. Clare hospital on Aug. 12th, age 66 years, two months and six days. He grew to manhood at Ottawa and after a few years spent in traveling, returned to his home city where he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Elizabeth Ovens, and to which union have been born two sons and three daughters. They came to Montana in 1912 and took up a homestead in the Goosebill country, where they have since resided. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. Mr. Pettapiece was a devoted member of the Christian Church.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Pettapiece; two sons, John W. and Robert M., three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Streigel, Valzed, Alaska; Mary Elizabeth and Annabelle; two brothers, Joseph, of Eden, and Robert Thomas, at Essex, Canada; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Hyland, Essex, Canada, and Mrs. Cyrus Scoby, of Ottawa, Canada, besides a host of neighbors and friends, who will mourn the passing of a loving husband, father, brother and friend.
Funeral services were held from the Louther mortuary on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock and were conducted by the Rev. Dan W. Brown, pastor of the Christian church in this city. The services were attended by a large number of friends from the Goosebill section and Fort Benton. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
The relatives have the sincere sympathy of friends in their bereavement.
