Zella married Arthur Deatherage in Ink, Missouri in 1910. In 1944, Zella and Arthur moved to Santa Rosa, California and in 1965 they moved to Castleford, Idaho. Zella was a school teacher in Eminence, Missouri and while they lived in California. In 1975, following the death of her husband, Zella moved to Seattle, Washington near her daughter. In May 1981, she returned to Castleford, Idaho to be cared for by her son and daughter-in-law until her death.
