He was the son of Abraham Blauvelt and Jane Mitchell Scott. In 1814,at the age of 14, he graduated from Queens College (Rutgers)delivering the valedictory address. He earned his M.A. from there in 1817. He received a degree from Princeton (College of New Jersey)in 1821 and from N.J. Theological Seminary in 1823. He was licensed to preach by the Prebytery of New Brunswick April 27, 1825 and received the call to Lamington May 30,1826. He was ordained and installed on August 9 and married Anna Maria Hutton at the Garden Street Reformed Dutch Church in NYC on Sept. 12th. He earned his Doctorate of Divinity from the University of New York in 1856. Two of his sons had distinguished careers in the ministry. He remained as the sole pastor at Lamington until 1882,when a co-pastor was installed to aid him in duties he was too frail to conduct. His death ended 62 years of service to one parish.
