Howard Kenneth Stubbs, Sr., age 80, a resident of Oliver Springs, went home to be with his Lord, Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at Harriman Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Preacher Stubbs was ordained into the ministry in 1958, by Milford Ely, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. He began his pastoral career at Royce Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, followed by New Fairview Baptist Church, Oliver Springs, Olivet Baptist Church, Knoxville, and he retired from Bible Baptist Church in Harriman, in 2001.

Brother Stubbs, was a kind compassionate man who loved the Lord, his family, the church, and his country that he served in the United States Air Force.

He was fun loving and quick witted and he enjoyed the occasional practical joke, especially at the expense of a friend.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Leffew Stubbs, by a son, Ronnie Edward Stubbs, by his parents, Lonnie Mack Stubbs, Sr. and Lillian B. Russell Stubbs, by a sister, Polly Berry and brothers, Russell and Carl Stubbs.

He is survived by sons; Kenny Stubbs Jr. and wife, Cindy of Oliver Springs, Sam Stubbs and wife, Jean of Walland and Gary Stubbs and wife, Annette of Wartburg, by daughters; Janet Brown and husband, Rick of Halls and Charlotte Shields and husband, John of Oliver Springs, by grandchildren; Jason Stubbs and wife, Jennifer, Laura Summers and husband, Josh, Justin Stubbs, Courtney Coker and husband, Lee, Noel Stubbs, Ethan Stubbs, Amanda Deboer and husband, Chad, Jennifer Pickwell and husband, Jeremy,Kerri Brown, Wallie Stubbs and wife, Roxanne and Nikki Seeber, and by 10 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by brothers; Lonnie Mack Stubbs, Jr. and wife Dottie of Oliver Springs, George Stubbs and wife Mona of Oak Ridge, by a sister, Ethel DeVault of Metropolis, IL, by a sister-in-law; Audrey Stubbs by special friends; Trula Dinkins, Linda Sharp, and Gordon and Carol Raby, by a host of other friends and family.

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 10, 2011, between the hours of 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastors, Garvan Walls, Ottis Hodnett, Ed Parton, Allen Johnson and Glen Leffew officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. The family expresses a heartfelt gratitude to the Harriman Health Care and Rehabilitation Center for all the care provided to Preacher Stubbs during his illness. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Printing Ministry. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
