He married Anna Maria Spindler Weitz in 1924; it was the second marriage for both. They had one son, Albert, who took over the grocery store when he retired. At the time of his death, Jacob had 2 sisters and 2 brothers still in Russia, and one sister, Mrs. Katharine Bohl, in Flint.
